Ahold Delhaize will close its remaining Martin’s Food Markets this summer. The nine stores operating under that banner are located in the greater Richmond, VA, and Williamsburg, VA, communities.
“Throughout this difficult process, our top concern has been to take care of our associates and treat them fairly and with respect,” Tom Lenkevich, president of Giant/Martin’s, said in a press release. “We know our associates’ continued dedication to our customers will provide excellent service in the coming weeks. We are also making a best-in-class commitment to take care of our people with a strong severance package.”
Four of the stores will close on July 10, and the remaining five will close Aug. 2.
“We want to thank our associates for their hard work and dedication over the years, and we are grateful for the loyalty of our many customers,” Lenkevich said in the release.
Last year Ahold sold 10 Martin’s stores located in Virginia to Publix Super Markets to satisfy Federal Trade Commission requirements for the merger between Ahold and Delhaize Group.
